Saint-Gobain has been present in China since 1985. It has 28 subsidiary companies operating in a range of markets including flat glass, containers, insulation, reinforcement fibers, ceramics & plastics, abrasives, pipes and building materials. The group is determined to be present in China with its complete range of activities and markets. Saint-Gobain's sales in 2002 in China totalize about Euro 195 millions, 70% of which were locally produced. The Group exports to the United States, Japan and other Asian countries. It employs over 4400 people throughout China by the end of 2002. Saint-Gobain has established 22 industrial companies throughout China, as well as 5 trading companies, 7 Representative and Sales Offices and 1 Holding Company. The Saint-Gobain companies in China are of two different types. Joint Ventures (JV) are partnership agreements with Chinese companies. On the contrary, WFOE (Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprises) are companies fully owned by Saint-Gobain.
