Beijing World Trade Corporation is a state owned comprehensive foreign trade enterprise established with the approval of the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations and Trade of the People's Republic of China and Beijing People's Government. Its history can betraced back to the Beijing Economic Development Corporation, a company set up by the Beijing People's Government in early 1979 in charge of introducing foreign technology and investment. In October of 1984, it was reorganized into China National Technical Import and Export Corporation Beijing Company, specialized in technology trade. In August,1988,pursuant to the decision made by the Beijing People's Government, the Import Department of Beijing Foreign Trade Corporation was merged into CNTICBC. In September,191,CNTICBC was renamed Beijing world trade Corporation. Beijing World Trade Corporation is mainly engaged in the following business: import and export of technology, production line and complete plant, procurement for the project by using loans or donations from foreign government or from foreign financing institution; undertaking equity or contractual joint venture, processing on supplied or purchased material, consignment sales, barter trade and transit trade. In addition, BWTC is one of the companies assigned and authorized by the Chinese authority to import steel, wool, rubber, timber, synthetic fiber in large quantity. BWTC and its predecessor completed import of more than 400 projects in the periods of 6th ,7th and 8th five-year plan covering state-plan-projects, urban infrastructure facilities, and technological renovation project of large and middle size enterprises. The accumulated total value of import and export amounts to 2.7 billion USD including business within Beijing and the business on behalf of other 24 provinces and autonomous region. Both in 1989 and 1990,BWTC was listed by the MOFTEC as one of the 200 enterprises with highest import and export trade value. Since 1991, it has been listed successively for years as the one of the 500 enterprises with highest import and export value. In 1992 and 1993 it was awarded by the Beijing People's Government the titles of "100 Economically strongest" and "Ten largest Foreign Trade Enterprises".
